We are committed to making our award-winning program accessible to aspiring teachers from all walks of life. However, to be a great teacher you need to have strong foundations! So at a minimum you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold qualifications which would allow you entry into higher education in your home country (for example, A-levels or equivalent for UK residents)
- Be able to speak English at a native level (C2 level on the CEFR or IELTS score of 8.5 or above for non native speakers)
Due to the intensive nature of the program, you should also be motivated to initiate change in the lives of young people and have a strong drive to enter the ELT industry as a teacher!
Additional Assessment Criteria for Entry into the TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL) Program:
Level of competence in spoken and written English:
While entry to the GET Academy’s TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL) Program requires that you speak English at a native-level, further assessment of your competence in spoken and written English is conducted via three methods. The first method is assessment of the appropriate structuring, formatting and completion of your initial application, including use of spelling and punctuation. The second method is assessment of your ability to respond to questions, follow prompts, and convey opinions and facts during the first and second interviews. The third method is assessment of your writing ability (structure and organisation of ideas) during the timed, hand-written task.
Social and interpersonal skills:
To be selected to participate in the GET Academy’s TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL) Program, you must display the ability to work constructively with fellow student teachers, course staff and students at school. During the preliminary and academic interview you will be asked specifically about how you would respond to constructive feedback on your teaching performance, to explain situations in the past where you have worked effectively as part of a team, and how you might actively strive to build rapport with colleagues and students.
Resilience and organisational skills:
The GET Academy’s TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL) Program requires that you work to deadlines. The program is delivered within the framework of a 3-month teaching placement and as such is intensive, rigorous, and demanding. You will be made aware of the demanding nature of the course during the interview phases and asked to explain situations where you have experienced something similar and how you would deal with the associated challenges.
Academic achievement and ability:
To be eligible to participate in the GET Academy’s TEFL (Trinity CertTESOL) Program, you must be suitably qualified to enter into higher education in your home country. During the academic interview candidates will also be assessed on their ability to analyse language and consider pedagogy for language teaching.
Other Considerations for Course Applicants:
Candidates with a disability or special educational needs:
The GET Academy provides reasonable adjustments to coursework and provision of course inputs for participants with a disability or special education needs. Course participants who require special arrangements in order to receive the same access to the program and go through the same training and experience as everyone else may submit for consideration an educational psychologists report detailing their learning difference or disability. Where appropriate, provisions will be made to ensure equal and fair access to the program, the details of which will be agreed upon on a case-by-case basis with the Director of Studies. Trinity College London will apply the same standards of assessment to all candidates during moderation. The assessment mode for a particular unit however, may be varied on the merits of an application for special provision, which must be submitted to Trinity directly. The GET Academy does not advise as to whether an application to Trinity for special provision is likely to succeed or not.
Candidates are required to disclose if they have ever been the subject of any allegations relating to, or prosecuted for, any offence committed against children or vulnerable adults, or any other offence that may impact on the student teacher’s ability to stand as a fit and proper candidate for a teaching role. Candidates must obtain a DBS check (for candidates from the UK) or equivalent from their home country before arriving in Austria for the start of the program.

This policy reflects Austrian national legislation and stipulates that the GET Academy does not discriminate against anyone because of national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, political affiliation, union membership, or veteran status.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
There is no provision for RPL, involving the waiving of either input, study activities or assignments. The process of the full training programme, including interaction with peers, tutors and learners, is important, both as training and in preparation for real-life employment as a teacher. In addition, releasing any individual course participants from parts of the course or assignments on the basis of prior experience gained elsewhere would be detrimental to the training experience for other members of the group.
Confirmation of a student teachers identity:
Candidates are required to provide a scanned copy of a current passport before arrival in Austria for the course and produce the original at orientation day.
